Steered by its versatile managing director Jimmy Mistry, ISO 9001-certified Della Tecnica is known for Larg-scale, perfectly executed design applications. A special report.

DELLA TECNICA IS AN ISO 9001-certified company providing consultation services in architecture and interior design all across the country. It is renowned for its large-scale design applications that are executed to perfection by a team of 450 employees operating from Mumbai, Pune and Daman.

As chief designer at Della Tecnica, Jimmy Mistry's high-profile client base relies on his interactive approach to satisfy their discerning tastes. Yet he him self admits he has no cultural foundation and no real formal education in design but comes from an engineering background. As a result of this, his strongest trait is the determination not to be underestimated as a force to be reckoned within the architectural fratemity.

At 32, Mr. Mistry is the driving force at the helm of Della Tecnica, a company that incorporates the dynamic hcaracter of its youthful and creatively restless founder. "I believe in doing somehing different, yet the most important element of my work is that the design brings about a sense of well being, reflects the energy of our time and includes some sense of originality or innovation," says Mr. Mistry.

Mr. Mistry has a certain flexibility built into his own nature that enable him to effortlessly move from designing a piece of furniture to creating interesting and highly functional corporate interiors and designing architectural building projects and complexes. This particular trait has become synoymous with the way in which Della Tecnica as a firm Operates.

Include a 32,000 sq.ft. Manufacturing facility at Daman, various in-house speciality teams encompassing every aspect of the business – be it the design, project management, electrical, plumbing, production and installation teams – and a customer service network that responds to clients need throughout the country.

As Della Tecnica moves into its eighth year since inception, it can look back at a period that spans the entire spectrum of architectural

design, interior planning and related design and consultancy services. Mr. Mistry has a no-nonsense, pratical approach to the design process, combining funcationality with cost-effective usage of materials. He belives that you have to understand functional requirments and the end user's needs.

As a result, Della Tecnica looks into every aspect of setting up of a facility, from evalution of sites to conceptual planning and cost estimation. It also selected the required materials, designs electrical, HVAC and telecommunication services and obtains clearance from the respective authorities before handing over the premises to the client.

The integrated service approach is reflected inthe company's rapid project turnaround time. It designs and delivers world-class interiors within a timeframe of 45 to 60 days, be it a 1,000 sq.ft. Office or a 80,000 sq.ft. Corporate building.

Della Tecnica's Expertise can be traced to several facts. "We do not subcontract, but have our own specialised in-house staff," says Mr. Mistry.

The versatility of the firm's experience is illustrated by its diverse design and project portfolio. Some of Della Tecnica's Project include the architectural planning design of a uniqure residential building – H & M Suites for Mr. Kothari, chairman of Pan Parag. Another interesting indenture was the re-designing of the Apsara Theatre in the heart of Mumbai into an 80,000 sq.ft. State-of-the-art commercial complex that now includes a theatre, shopping arcade and office space, done for Vinod Govani Builders. A unique opportunity was the complete external facade and landscape design of the four-storey, 60,000 sq.ft. Complex that houses the Star News studio and Star India corporate offices. Yet another interesting project is a 26,000 sq.ft. Shopping mall at Malad, the western Mumbai suburb.

A new avenue for the company has been the design and execution of interiors for health and recreational facilities like tha W.I.A.A Club and the Euphoria Gym in south Mumbai. It is currently designing a restaurant and lounge at another recreational complex.

The company's most noteworthy accomplishments to date, however, are the corporate offices designed for the best Indian and multinational companies and over the years it has steadily built a high-powered and loyal client base who value it for 24-hour support and r\proven track record.

Elaborating on this, Mr. Mistry cites the example of AC Nielsen ORG-MARG Pvt. Ltd. "We had designed their 26,000 sq.ft. Corporate head offices in Mumbai and the project was executed in 60 days," he says. "When they were looking to expand in Vadodara, we were approached and challenged to execute that 30,000 sq.ft. Facility in 45 days... which we did, it's all about capability, getting better and beating our earlier records....Another impetus is the faith that clients have inthe work we do."
